Kate Marker Interiors started in an upstairs home office in 2007 with big ideas to grow beyond four walls. in 2012, Kate opened her first studio right in the heart of downtown Barrington, Illinois. Five years later she and her growing team moved to a larger studio & expanded showroom, just a few blocks away.
PRINCIPAL DESIGNER & OWNER // An artist at heart, Kate began her design career studying Fine Arts at Illinois State University before transferring to Harrington College of Design where she received her degree in Interior Design. Kate has been honing her talents while developing her signature fresh, timeless look since 2000. As Principal Designer, Kate oversees all design projects to ensure they are a reflection of the client while incorporating the KMI aesthetic. Kate's strengths lie in her endless ideas & inspiration, relentless work ethic, unwavering vision, and great sense of humor, which, lucky for everyone she works with, is infectious.
Kate lives in Barrington, Illinois with her husband, their two daughters, and their dogs, Maddox & Millie. In Kate's free time she can be found biking with her girls, catching a yoga class with a friend, searching for the perfect antique rug, and late-night online shopping.
SENIOR DESIGNER // Maggie has been Kate's right hand since Kate Marker Interiors moved into its first studio in 2012 and, with her, she brought her love for drafting, keen aesthetic eye, and great attention to detail. Maggie’s passion for interiors started at an early age when she would tag along with her mother, a home stager. Like Kate, Maggie also graduated from Harrington College of Design in Chicago and her talents are evident throughout each and every KMI project as she creates, guides, or refines every design. Paired with her off-resume skills of being the KMI DJ, tech support, font guru and resident boheme, she has become nothing short of essential!
Maggie and her husband enjoy traveling, camping, and concerts with their two photogenic pugs in tow.
DESIGN ASSISTANT // Liisa joined KMI in 2015 in a very organic way and that's probably because she can do whatever is asked of her, and she does it well. With marketing degrees from the University of Illinois and Northwestern, she joined KMI to help with marketing and writing, and naturally transitioned to design assistant because of her great eye and love of interior design. She not only keeps our projects organized but jumps in at any time to help with design projects.
When she's not working, trying the latest restaurants with her husband, caring for their three children, or planning a community service event, you can find her studying for her degree in Interior Design.
JUNIOR DESIGNER // Caryn has jumped right in to KMI projects with her AutoCAD wizardry, willingness to help, and calm, easy-going personality. A graduate of Columbia College’s Interior Architecture program, Caryn is NCIDQ certified. She has always loved interior design and transforming a house into a home.
She has been both the designer and the client as she and her husband completely renovated their first home this past winter, incorporating army green kitchen cabinets and steel door accents. Caryn and her husband, who happen to be high school sweethearts, enjoy traveling, concerts and cooking and hosting parties.
OFFICE MANAGER // Megan does not shy away from opportunities and hard work, having opened a restaurant while renovating an old farm house and juggling four children, her dog and cat, and a baker's dozen of chickens. Since joining KMI as our Office Manager, Megan has energetically kept us briefed on data regarding products, schedules, and inventory and handles all bookkeeping. Megan's can-do attitude is a huge asset to our team and helps make things as seamless as possible over here on Park Avenue!
Megan lives on over 6 acres with her husband and children and enjoys cooking, crafting, renovating, and entertaining. In the rare moment she slows down, you may find her tucked away in a hammock.
STYLIST & PHOTOGRAPHER // Unanimous decisions are few and far between in our office prior to some serious banter, but bringing Emily into our team was just that. A Portland, Oregon transplant, Emily complements our design team as our resident Stylist & Photographer. She is a graduate of Ohio University with a Visual Communications degree and loves that her role bridges her background in graphic design & photography with her love of interior design.
Emily, her husband, and their two daughters are still in search of the perfect taco joint in Illinois. Suggestions are welcome!
